And just like that... Her first full term in reception class is done! ✅🥰
I'm forever grateful to the teachers and teaching assistants who must be exhausted after such a long and gruelling term, who have continued to care for Hermione with such verve and enthusiasm right up until the last day.
Only yesterday was she covering her hands with purple paint and having a little wipe of it on her face with her TA by her side! 😂🥰🥰
Hermione had a big sleep tonight when she came home, before her tea (yes, danger nap time! 😂😫) but we figured she had a term's worth of tiredness to catch up on, plus a hospital stay in the mix, so we just let her sleep!
Then she woke up and celebrated with bourbon biscuits and jaffa cakes 😋😂🤭.
I remember writing about my fears and trepidation about the start of school for our Hermione in September. It's fantastic to think how far she's come within a few months, and the new experiences, friends and connections she's made.
It's hard to sum up what a lovely feeling it is, and I wish I could bottle it.
I often reflect on the fact that children with Down Syndrome were not legally entitled to a mainstream education until 1981.
It makes me feel angry and sad that generations of children had much less of a chance to grow up with children like Hermione, who teach the world so much.
Empathy, joy and delight being some of these things. Different ways of learning and communicating are others.
How the world was missing out back then.
So well done Hermione for smashing your first term at school and showing the world your amazing little self 🥰🥰.
Happy Christmas! 🎄🎅
