Not quite a Throwback Thursday, but this little one was very brave and had another round of blood tests today.
She has them annually or sometimes bi-annually, as part of the Down Syndrome Care Pathway, to check for a number of health issues that may or may not develop, such as hypothyroidism and coeliac disease, and she also has a full blood count.
We're also having a referral to the immunology team, to check her immune system, after all our poorlyness this winter.
They're never easy, these blood appointments. We're always anxious before it, and you steel yourself to be upbeat and strong for Hermione.
But by heck, she's a brave little soul, and quickly forgives, thanking the nurses and being curious about the toys in the room.
She's becoming more aware of what happens at these appointments, which is a double-edged sword. It's good we can explain and sign roughly what's coming, but also she now understands 'hurt.'
When she rubbed her little bruised hand and said, 'hurt, mummy,' I was both proud that she said a two-word sentence, but also crushed that she understands physical pain, and accepts this can be part of some her appointments.
Her daddy and I gave her a huge squeeze when we got home; and of course, there were lots of jaffa cakes and Skips crisps on offer, and she munched away happily watching Bing.
She does bounce back and I'm in awe of her.
