From gazing at the gates over summer, to completing her first full week.
Hermione loves to chill out with toys that she can either stack or post. Her latest favourite is a little pig where she is able to post giant coins. I could see her processing her busy week whilst she did this.
A full week of new experiences, people and buildings, and lots of transitions within each day. Hermione finds any transition, big or small, quite tricky at times, and having a limited amount of speech makes it difficult for her to express how it makes her feel. We've learnt that she needs quiet chill out time after any intense period of activity, and so having the toys she enjoys helps her to do this.
We're in awe of her this week, as she went head long into these transitions and tackled each one.
At times, we did have some tricky moments, like when we tried the handover at the start of the day on the playground, instead of the front door.
It was just too busy and bustling for Hermione, and a couple of times she was laid on the ground, me crouched beside her, and I wondered how I would get her to the teacher.
We tried, but right now, we've learned that the best way is the front door way. It's quieter and more direct.
We've also had successful moments. She has sat through an assembly. She has carried her own book bag. She has eaten her lunch in a noisy lunch hall. These things I wondered if Hermione would just find too much at this point in her life.
I'm learning that success comes in many forms, and that for every moment spent without me at school, Hermione is becoming braver.
And maybe, just maybe, so am I.
