Our mantra of self-worth

helenbielby

Miss Clever.

I made a promise to myself to always make sure Hermione is familiar with words that describe her worth.

We have a little mantra where we say, 'you are brave, and strong, and clever and beautiful' and we sign along with the words.

I want her to not only possess the language of self-worth, but to eventually understand these concepts.

Hermione learnt the word 'beautiful' from The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle, when the caterpillar turns into a 'beautiful butterfly' at the end. It's one of her favourites.

We explored the words 'clever,' 'brave' and 'strong' through reading the Mr Men books.

The colourful front covers of all these books appeal to Hermione, and with careful repetition, I can see her making those all important connections between the words and the concepts and the wider world.

It's lovely to see.

My beautiful butterfly spreading her wings and flying.
